Privacy policy

This policy covers the PuppyTracker app for iPhone and iPad, and this website. PuppyTracker is made by Gianluca Macis, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. Throughout this policy, "I" means the developer and "you" means the person using the app.

Everything you log — events like wees, poos, naps, meals, wake and bed times, accidents, notes, weights, health and treatment records, your puppy's name and date of birth, any photo you choose, your settings, chat history and generated daily stories — is written to a database inside PuppyTracker's own private storage on your device.

There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and no server of mine involved. Because the data sits in the app's storage on your device, it is included in your normal encrypted iPhone or iPad backups, which are governed by Apple's terms and your own iCloud or computer settings rather than by me.

Widgets, Siri shortcuts and Control Centre controls read the same local data so they can show your day and log events without opening the app.

Nothing. The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no marketing tools and no third-party SDKs of any kind. It does not track you across other apps or websites. There is no telemetry that phones home to tell me the app was opened, let alone what you logged in it.

This is also what the app declares to Apple in its privacy manifest: no tracking, and no collected data types.

The Ask tab and the written daily story are generated by Apple's on-device Foundation Models, which run locally on your iPhone or iPad. Your puppy's data is used to ground those answers on your device, and the generated text is written back to the same local database.

There is no server fallback and no third-party AI provider. Nothing about your puppy is sent to me, to OpenAI, to Google, or to anyone else in order to answer a question.

• •Notifications — only if you turn on toilet reminders. They are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. I never send push notifications, and there are no marketing messages.
• •Photo library — only when you tap to choose a photo of your puppy. The app receives just the picture you pick and stores a copy in its own local storage. It has no ongoing access to your library and does not use the camera.

The app does not request location, contacts, microphone, health data or any other sensitive permission, and it has no iCloud or CloudKit sync.

PuppyTracker has an advanced, entirely optional setting under Settings → Data & backup → Data source that lets you point the app at your own PuppyTracker server instead of the local database — for example if you want to share one log between two phones.

If you switch it on, your journal data is sent over HTTPS to the server address you enter, using an access token you provide. That server is yours: I do not operate it, I have no access to it, and your data still never reaches me. Securing and backing up that server is up to you. Even in this mode, the AI features continue to run on your device — only the resulting text is stored alongside your other data.

Local and self-hosted storage are kept separate; switching between them does not merge or upload your existing data.

PuppyTracker is free. If you choose to leave an optional tip, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — the app never sees or stores your payment details. I receive Apple's usual aggregated sales and payout reporting, which tells me that a tip happened and in which country, and never who you are.

Apple's own handling of your Apple Account, purchases and downloads is covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Because everything lives on your device, you are in direct control of it:

• •Export it — Settings → Data & backup can write your events, weights, health records and treatment history out as CSV files, or save the entire database as a single file.
• •Delete it — the same screen can permanently erase everything the app holds. Deleting the app from your device also removes its data.

Since I hold no copy of your data, there is nothing for me to retrieve, correct or delete on your behalf, and no data of yours for me to sell or share. Nothing is transferred internationally, because nothing is transferred at all.

PuppyTracker is rated 4+ and is designed for the person looking after a puppy. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because it does not collect personal information at all.

This site is a handful of static pages served from Cloudflare. There are no cookies, no analytics scripts, no advertising and no tracking pixels. Fonts and images are served from this domain rather than third parties, so visiting the site does not hand your details to anyone else. Cloudflare processes standard request logs to serve and protect the site, as described in their own privacy documentation.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
